Winter is snowmobiling season in the Northwoods, and when you arrive at Wild Eagle Lodge, you have entered the Snowmobile Capital of the World. With an abundant annual snowfall, it often seems as if the snowmobiles out-number the vehicles. Trails run through an incredible wilderness of over half a million acres, connecting you with all twelve Vilas County communities and the amenities and services snowmobilers demand. During the snowmobile season of mid-December to mid-March, Vilas County’s many snowmobile clubs and dedicated volunteers groom and maintain a five hundred mile trail network that is known as the “Eagle River 500.” These trails wind through beautiful forests and across frozen lakes. The result is a snowmobiling destination that’s second to none, all of which you have direct access to right from your lodge home. Bring your own snowmobile or rent one from one of the many rental depots in Eagle River. Or, if you prefer to witness the sport instead of partaking, be sure to plan your visit to coincide with one of the many snowmobile races (including vintage, ovals, and snocross) held at the World Championship Snowmobile Derby Track, just two miles away from Wild Eagle Lodge.
