With bright white snow, clear blue skies, and pristine trails, the Northwoods is a wonderful place for snowshoeing, a growing sport in Wisconsin. Snowshoeing is a great workout that doesn’t require technical skill; it’s an easy way to explore places touched by Old Man Winter. Here at Wild Eagle Lodge, you can rent a pair of our snowshoes and snowshoe around our property, or venture elsewhere. Snowshoers will find trekking opportunities on both trails and hundreds of miles of logging roads in the Nicolet National Forest near Eagle River. The forest east of our town is laced with beautiful cross country ski/snowshoe trails. The surrounding communities of Vilas County, including the Boulder Junction, Manitowish Waters, Sayner, and Land O' Lakes areas also have many beautiful places to snowshoe and explore. Most people want trails, but the best paths are the ones you make yourselves. Those can seem to be anywhere after a fresh snowfall; cut across the lake and see for yourself!
